Life Lately

Life Lately

The end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 has been a whirlwind.

We spent the holidays with all of our family and friends and made memories that we will laugh about for years to come.

We had some once in a lifetime experiences with the Winter Classic game, we enjoyed Christmas parties. Completed some newer DIY projects (which will be coming soon!) adopted a new kitten, made some cute outfits!

Although these pictures don’t reflect it, we have had some tough days, some unexpected news, plans that changed. My goal for 2020 is to just stay positive. Why dwell on the negative when a problem arises, happiness is a choice that I plan on making everyday.

2020 will be my year

Next post will be a break down of the year long date nights that I planned for our anniversary, along with some extra fun at home date nights that we enjoy!

Dating Your Spouse

Dating Your Spouse

John and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary!

We recently dealt with some marital issues and through them I learned some valuable information that I feel like would be beneficial for all married couples.

Our argument centered around the fact that John and I have been struggling with communicating our needs with one another, a common issue with many couples.

In the heat of the moment, we both threw out some nasty things and said things that neither of us meant and just wanted to hurt the other more than we were hurting.

I went to a friend and the first question they asked was “when was the last time we had gone on a date..just the TWO of us?”

I was embarrassed to look back and realize how long it had been and I hadn’t realized it.

Sure, we had gotten out of the house together, but it was always with the kids or with friends. We hadn’t made time for ourselves in months!

If we were dating and hadn’t gone on a date in months, then we would’ve lost interest with each other and moved on. We got so caught up in our nonstop, busy lives, that we forgot to stop and take time to nurture our relationship as husband and wife!

Once I realized this, I sat down to try to figure out what I could do as an anniversary gift to try to make the situation better.

The solution was a date night book, I sat down and decided that we were going to commit to 1 date night per month. Using the magical powers of google, I curated an entire year of date nights, all unique and tailored just for the 2 of us! Some, I pre-purchased, and some are flexible. I will create a separate post of all the ideas I planned for us for my next post and will link it here when it goes up.

The point is, now that we have plans pre made, we are more likely to keep the date regardless of how busy each other is.

There is no downside to getting to spend more quality time with the man you fell in love with, married and created a life with. I can not wait to go on all the dates and grow our relationship even more!

Self Care

Self Care

Self care is defined as the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.

Self care is something that always gets pushed off until I can finish all the things on my mental to-do list that never seems to end.

I work as a teacher, and in my building, self care is priority. We are told over and over again that if we are struggling, we need to take a step back, re-evaluate and then dive back in. How else would you be able to juggle all of the duties that come with that of a classroom teacher.

It took me a while to really understand what self care was for me, because it is different for every person. Sometimes I need a quiet space to relax and unwind, maybe it is a bath after a long day with a glass of wine. Some days it is drinking my cup of coffee while it is still hot. I love to relax in the evening and watch one of my shows with John. Sewing is a creative outlet for me that I enjoy a lot and I get to watch my little ones wear the creations I make them, which makes me even happier.

The point is, don’t let self care drop to the bottom of your to-do list! Figure out what self care looks like to you and take the time to put you first because YOU DESERVE IT!

We all have THOSE days…

We all have THOSE days…

We all have THOSE days…

You know what days I’m talking about already,

THOSE days where you overslept,

THOSE days that you struggle to dress your toddler but she insists on a tutu in 30° weather

THOSE days where you need to get gas on the way to work, but you’re already running behind,

THOSE days when you drop your toddler off at daycare and they cry for you,

THOSE days where you have a TO-DO list that seems impossible to get through at work,

THOSE days where your boss seems like the enemy,

THOSE days when you forget to pack lunch so you scarf down the peanut butter crackers and a Coke from the vending machine.,

THOSE days when you get home to find your dog has destroyed something in the house,

THOSE days when your toddler clings to you when you get home,

THOSE days when the laundry looks like Mt. Everest and you have no willpower to climb it,

THOSE days where you are so exhausted from a long day at work that you can’t bring yourself to cook a good dinner…you order pizza,

THOSE days when your husband hasn’t had a great day and comes home in a mood,

THOSE days when all you are looking forward to is bedtime,

THOSE days where you have a 3 year old taking up most of your bed,

THOSE days when you desperately want alone time with your spouse,

THOSE days where you are so tired, yet struggle to fall asleep because you are thinking about all the things you didn’t get to that you now have to do the next day…

We all have THOSE days …we have to remember on THOSE days that we are NOT alone!

ALL moms struggle to get it together, even those perfect pinterest moms have THOSE days.

We get caught up in this world where we feel like we have to juggle all the things at once to feel successful. We compare ourselves to images we scroll through on Instagram, we are all trying to “keep up with the Jones’”.

Give yourself a break, give yourself a minute to breathe, give yourself time to take that bubblebath and drink that glass (or bottle) of wine, give yourself some time to just sit and watch a movie with the kids and not worry about the TO-DO list. It will be there later, I promise!
